The Position

Deputy Sheriff Reserves are citizen-volunteers who give their time to increase the safety and security of their community. They are professionals in both their full-time jobs and their part-time career with the Office of the Sheriff. Reserve Deputies take great pride in the organization and the services that they provide.

Deputy Sheriff Reserves are California Sworn Reserve Peace Officers that are trained at or above the state POST Standards.  If you are interested in volunteering your time to protect and serve your community, we want to talk to you.  We are hiring Level III, II, and I Reserves.

Training Level Information

Respond to Service Calls

Reserves support all types of law enforcement service calls with full time deputies.  Whether it is a false alarm, a dog left in a hot car, or a serious crime, you will be an integral part of handling the call.

Transport Arrestees

Contra Costa County covers over 715 square miles and has 1.1 million residents.  As a Reserve Deputy, you will transport arrestees from all over the county to our detention facilities, allowing full time deputies to stay in their communities.

Save Lives

Each year our Reserves respond to calls where someone’s life is at risk. As a Reserve, you may help save someone with a medical emergency or those injured in a traffic accident, as well as help find lost loved ones that are at risk.

Assist With Emergencies

As a Reserve, you will be on call 24/7/365 to assist with emergency situations.  We ask that you respond to as many as you can, but understand that you have paid employment and other commitments elsewhere. You will help with a wide variety of crime scenes and special details.

Give Out Hundreds of Stickers

Reserves support over 60 community events per year.  As a Reserve, you can:

  • Keep events secure
  • Provide food and gifts during the holidays
  • Reunite lost parents with their children
  • Help people at the County Fair
  • Support organized races on Mt. Diablo
  • Give out 100’s of stickers
