Like Wilkening, Mahan was both a Mason and a
resident of Antioch.
Old county records show that Mahan operated
Brentwood Brick Works.
Mahan served three consecutive terms as sheriff,
doubling as tax collector during his first term. (Originally, the
sheriff was responsible for county tax collection. This changed in 1879,
when the office of tax collector was filled by a separate election.)
