Why the Contra
Costa County
Office of the Sheriff?
-
Deputy Sheriff's can
expect to earn $70,000 + their first year
(No Retirement "maximum age")
-
The wide variety of
assignments, benefit package, promotional opportunities, and
professional reputation are what separates the Sheriff's Office from
other law enforcement agencies.
-
The Contra Costa
County Sheriff's Office is now accepting
P.O.S.T. "T" scores. The
T-score will only validate our test if you HAVE NOT failed a Contra Costa County
Office of the Sheriff written exam or submitted a T-score within the past
six (6) months. However, you can use your T-score after the six (6) months
has expired.
Documented scores of 48 or higher
within the past 12 months will validate the written test.
Candidates must still
successfully complete the agility test, which will be held at 10 a.m., the
same day as the written test.
THE POSITION
Contra Costa County Sheriffs Deputies have an exciting and challenging
opportunity to pursue a career in law enforcement. Prior law enforcement
experience is not required. Individuals who are appointed as Deputy
Sheriff-Recruits will be assigned to attend a Basic Academy approved by
P.O.S.T. (California Commission of Peace Officer Standards and Training).
The Basic P.O.S.T. Academy program involves 26 weeks of intensive academic
instruction on law enforcement procedures combined with a rigorous
physical fitness-training segment. Upon successful completion of the Basic P.O.S.T. Academy, Deputy Sheriff-Recruits will graduate and be sworn in as
Peace Officers and receive a pay raise to the first step of the above
range.
The first permanent assignment
is the Detention Division for a minimum of 18 months. Detention
presents an incredible opportunity to sharpen the skills learned in the
Academy and to develop the communications skills that will prove
beneficial in a law enforcement career. Working Detention prior to patrol
is a tremendous advantage. Deputies become familiar with the criminal
element in a controlled environment.
