ARMY
You've Served your Country...
Now Serve your Community

Army Helicopter and troopsTRANSITION OF CHOICE...

Even though there are over 1,000,000 soldiers in the United States Army - you've learned that you are your own force. The might of the Army doesn't lie in numbers. It lies in you!

Reflect back to Basic Training, the 15-mile road march, graduation and the traditional pass in review before the Commander that marked the end of week one. In that short time you learned an incredible amount about the Army, and even more about yourself. You pushed yourself to become tougher and develop more discipline than you ever thought possible.

Your Army training was diverse, to encompass all the situations that you were likely to face. You came prepared to meet whatever challenges you and your team found. Just getting there was half the excitement. Whether you got there in a Bradley Fighting Vehicle or a Black Hawk helicopter, you were trained to make a powerful entrance.

The United States Army has given you a meaningful experience, something you can use for the rest of your life. Your military experience has helped you plan for the future and that future is now. A future with the Office of the Sheriff, Contra Costa County.

Sgt. FawellSgt. Sean Fawell

Sgt. Sean Fawell began his Army enlistment in 1978 and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division for three years as a medic in a recon unit. In 1981, Sgt. Fawell reenlisted and transferred to the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii where he served as a line company medic in an Infantry Platoon. After being promoted to Sergeant, he served as a flight medic in helicopter ambulance detachments in both Hawaii and at Fort Irwin, California.

Sean left active duty in 1990 and joined the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy. AFawell in the Army by a helicopter twelve-year veteran, he has worked in several assignments, including the Detention Division and the Patrol Division. Sgt. Fawell has performed as a Patrol Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor, and advanced Training Instructor. Promoted to Sergeant in 2000, he is now a supervisor at the Martinez Detention Facility.

As an Army Reservist, Sgt. Fawell served as a Drill Sergeant, a Medical Courses Instructor and an Observer Controller in the 91srt Division; finally retiring as a Master Sergeant in 2001 with 22 years of military service.

Deputy Daniel WedemeyerDeputy Wedemeyer

Deputy Wedemeyer has over sixteen “combined” years serving the United States Army. From 1989 to 1992, Daniel served with Military Traffic Management Command out of the Oakland Army Base as an MP.

Deputy Wedemeyer separated from the regular army in 1992, however he remains with the United States Army Reserves. His past reserve assignments have included the 341st MP Company in San Jose and he currently holds the position of Sergeant First Class (E-7) with 1st Battalion/104th Division out of Aurora, Colorado.

Deputy Wedemeyer began his career with the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office in July 2000. Presently, Daniel is assigned to Detention/Transportation at the Martinez Detention Facility. Deputy Wedemeyer has served at all three of our detention facilities, which include the MDF, Marsh Creek and the West County Detention Facilities.

Deputy Wedemeyer states, “I have found many similarities between the Army and the Contra Costa Sheriffs. These include the esprit de corps between me and my fellow deputies, plus the overall spirit felt within a specialized unit.”
