You've Served your Country...
Now Serve your Community

After all your training, the moment comes when you are called into action. Everyone front view of the hull of a Navy vesselon your ship is working in unison together to get the job done. Whether that job is deterring aggression, maintaining the freedom of the seas, or humanitarian aid in peacetime. This is what makes your job stand out in the United States Navy. You may have already explored much of Europe, Asia and the Pacific… chances are you’ve covered the globe. You’ve come to understand the excitement of having multiple and varied career assignments. Lt. Ernie Templeton

Lt. Templeton entered Naval Service through Aviation Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida. He was commissioned in January 1974, and then released from active duty in March 1975.

Lt. Templeton affiliated with the Coast Guard Reserve in 1976, however returned to Naval Reserve in 1981. Today, Lt. Templeton holds the rank of Captain in the Naval Reserve, where he has held a wide variety ofLt. Templeton in the Navy assignments. Since October 2000, Lt. Templeton has been an intelligence volunteer consultant specializing in counter narcotics and homeland defense for the Civil Maritime Industry Group NR ONI-5666 in Washington D.C.

In civilian life, Lt. Templeton has been employed since 1976 as a Deputy Sheriff for the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office. He is currently a Sheriff’s Lieutenant serving as Patrol Division Area Commander for the Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Deputy Jim Remick

Deputy Jim Remick joined the United States Navy in 1986. Jim was attached to COMPAC Wings PAC assigned to Patrol Squadron 19 (VP-19). He completed two years of technical training to include Anti-submarine Warfare School, Air Crewman Candidate School, Basic Aviation Survival School and Navy Rescue Swimmer School (SAR). Deputy Remick was assigned to NAS Moffett Field in Northern California.

Deputy Remick separated from the Navy in 1990 and spent eight years in the private sector. In 1998, Jim joined the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Remick has served a variety of assignments including detention, county patrol, and as a D.A.R.E. Officer. When asked what similarities he found between his deputy position and the USN, Deputy Remick stated, “I missed the camaraderie and team work that I experienced in the Navy and I found it here at the Sheriff’s Office.”

Deputy Sam Roberts

Deputy Roberts joined the Navy in 1992 and was assigned to the USS Roanoke as an Electricians Mate. While in the USN, Sam developed an interest in law enforcement, which lead him to attend 9545 School. 

Eventually, Deputy Roberts was assigned to Travis AFB where his responsibilities included protecting Navy resources and enforcing regulations for the base. Deputy Roberts left the USN with the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class in 1999.

Sam attended the Napa Police Academy and while there, was hired by the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Roberts states, “the Navy allowed me to expand my horizons and I have experienced the same with the Contra Costa Sheriff’s.”
