RESOLUTION NO. 2000/399
WHEREAS, Warren E. Rupf has completed 35 years of service with Contra Costa County in the Office of the Sheriff; and
WHEREAS, Warren served four year in the United States Marine Corps before beginning his career in the Office of the Sheriff; and
WHEREAS, Warren has worked for three Sheriffs and in virtually every classification in the Office of the Sheriff before being appointed to the position of Sheriff on December 8, 1992; and
WHEREAS, Warren currently serves on the Executive Board of the California State Sheriffs' Association as Secretary of that organization; is a member of the Contra Costa County Police Chiefs' Association and served as Chairman for the year 1999; is a member of the National Sheriffs' Association, serving as Vice Chairman of the Marine/Water Safety Committee; is an Executive Board member of the Northern California High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas, chairing their Finance Subcommittee; has served as President of the Bay Counties Peace Officers; Association during the years 1995 and 1996 and has served on numerous Governor's Task Forces; and
WHEREAS, Warren's interest and concerns for promoting recreational boating and water safety legislation and funding throughout the State led him to seek an appointment to the State of California Boating and Waterways Commission; he was appointed by Governor Wilson to the Commission in 1997 and currently serves as Chair of the Commission; and
WHEREAS, Warren has successfully led the Office of the Sheriff through difficult fiscal times while maintaining and increasing the level of public protection in our County and greatly enhancing community policing in our neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, Warren has consistently proven to be a dynamic, innovative leader in the law enforcement field with a passionate dedication to the highest ideals of the profession; and
WHEREAS, Warren has been active in various community service oriented groups and has received honors from the Outdoor Sportsmen's Coalition of California, 1995 Peace Officer of the Year; Boy Scouts of America, Mt. Diablo Silverado Council Silver Beaver Award; and the Making a Difference Community Award, Assistance League of Diablo Valley, May 2000.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby publicly recognize and express its appreciation for the contribution Sheriff Warren E. Rupf has made to Contra Costa County and to his profession during his 35 years of service.
