Contra Costa County Sheriffs BadgeSheriff's Dive Team

The Sheriff's Dive Team is one of the most active groups within the Volunteer Services Unit.  The Sheriff's Dive Team is comprised of volunteers who donate their time to the Office of the Sheriff to perform underwater operations.  The members of the Sheriff's Dive Team are all experienced divers who answer the call, twenty-four hours a day, for divers.  Members of the Sheriff's Office Dive Team have donated hundreds of hours of service to their community and to the police agencies of Contra Costa County, as well as mutual aid services to agencies outside of our county.

Members of the Sheriff's Dive Team must meet stringent training requirements that ensure that divers are proficient in the latest diving techniques.  Members of the Dive Team must all minimally be certified to the Rescue Diver Certification Level.  Members of the Dive Team train on a monthly basis and average at least one call-out each week.

Because of the amount of shoreline of Contra Costa County, including the Delta, Bay Area lakes and reservoirs, the Dive Team is called to respond to a large variety of calls.  Recently, the Dive Team has responded for assistance from agencies requesting evidence recovery missions, in-water suspect searches and body recoveries from drownings.  Because of the waters of the Delta, the divers often operate in zero visibility waters with swift currents.  At this time, the Office of the Sheriff does not provide diving equipment to the members of the team.
