The Coroner’s primary duty is to determine the cause,
manner and mode of death as a result of homicide, suicide, accidental or
unexplained deaths. The determination of death is reached through
examination of evidence, scene investigation, review of medical records,
witness and doctor interviews as well as autopsies and/or Coroner
Inquests.
Our Forensics Division provides
services in the areas of
criminalistics,
alcohol and
drug toxicology,
central
identification services (fingerprints).
The
Property Unit is responsible for the storage, record keeping and
disposition of all property and evidence submitted to them by the
Sheriff’s Office as well as the
contract
cities of Danville, Lafayette, Orinda and San Ramon.
