The Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff’s Classification Unit consists of one Sergeant, 12 Deputy Sheriffs, and one Clerk.
The Classification Unit utilizes an objective screening process for all inmates to ensure their appropriate housing assignments. The Classification process functions in compliance with mandates set forth in Minimum Jail Standards Title 15-1050, and is accomplished through inmate interviews and reviews of historical records. Classification files are constantly reviewed to achieve the inmates’ maximum possible integration with general population.
The goal of the Classification Unit is to house all inmates in a manner that provides for their safety and security while allowing maximum participation in programs.
