Neighborhood Watch is a community action and problem-solving program.  It is one of the most effective means available for resolving issues within your community.  Through organized problem-solving activities, your block can remove crime from your neighborhood and address any community issues that concern residents.

Starting a Neighborhood Watch group is easy!  Gather interest with your neighbors and contact the Community Services Unit, and a Specialist will coordinate a meeting with your neighborhood

The Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff's Security/Surveillance Camera registration program is a voluntary opportunity for residents and business owners to make a valuable impact on crime in their community.  By registering your address, you let detectives know that your home/business is equipped with a perimeter surveillance system.  In the event of a crime in your area, detectives will be aware that your system is available to them should they need it to possibly identify the suspect.

You remain in complete control of your system.  If needed, the detective will meet with you to view your recordings for the time period in question and download any identifiable footage.  This is a voluntary program and you can opt out at any time.  Click here for more information on the program and how to sign up.

The Citizen's Academy is your exclusive pass to witness the thrilling behind-the-scenes action of the Office of the Sheriff! Our team of seasoned professionals, who handle these tasks day in and day out, will be your instructors throughout this exciting six-week course. Brace yourself for a jam-packed program featuring captivating presentations, thrilling demonstrations, hands-on practical scenarios, and eye-opening tours of our facilities. From the Coroner's Division to the Crime Lab, K-9 program, Dispatch, Patrol Operations, Investigations, and more, we've got it all covered! Join us every Wednesday in Martinez for six consecutive weeks, and don't forget the special Saturday session at our Law Enforcement Training Range in Clayton. Get ready to dive deep into the world of law enforcement and discover what it takes to keep our community safe!

To participate in the Citizens' Academy you must:

• Live in Contra Costa County.
• Be 18 years of age.
• Have a valid form of identification.
• Have no pending criminal cases or outstanding warrants for your arrest.
• Have no felony convictions anywhere, and or no misdemeanor arrests in the past 12 months.

 The Teen Academy will cover a wide range of topics, including patrol procedures, crime scene investigations, K9 demonstrations, SWAT operations, and more. Participants will also have the chance to interact with deputies and other law enforcement professionals, allowing them to ask questions and gain valuable insights into the field. By participating in the Teen Academy, teens will not only learn about the important work of law enforcement but also develop valuable skills such as teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving. This program is a great opportunity for teens who are interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement or who simply want to learn more about the role of law enforcement in their community.

The Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff is proud to partner with the radKIDS Personal Empowerment and Safety Education Program. This program is offered to children in age groups between 5-7 years old and 8-12 years old.  The tools and skills learned from this program will allow the children of our community the opportunity to make realistic choices concerning overall safety in the world we live in today. Through participation, parents of the children involved in the program will also understand those choices.

The goals of this program are to empower our children to make wise and safe decisions when confronted with potentially dangerous situations that they may encounter in their daily routine.  A few of the topics covered are Home Safety, School Safety, Out and About Safety, Good and Bad Strangers, and what to do in emergency situations. The skills learned in this program will benefit our children as they grow up in today’s ever-changing world.
